With so many employers within the city's limits and so little land to cover (7.6 square miles), it's no wonder drivers don't spend much time in their vehicles.
A major medical center, Fort Hays State University and a large public school district sit right in town, so many area residents work practically in their own backyards.
Entertainment is close by as well: The "German capital of Kansas" celebrates two Oktoberfests in honor of its heritage. As a bonus, parking is free everywhere in Hays - even at the town's regional airport.
