Tens of thousands of U.S. gas stations are now charging less than $3 per gallon after prices fell by about 10 cents in the past week.
The price of the average gallon is now $2.91 in Texas, the lowest in the country, according to the price comparison app GasBuddy.
Average gas prices are below $3.10 in five other states: Oklahoma ($3.05), Mississippi ($3.07), Georgia ($3.08), Louisiana ($3.08) and Arkansas ($3.09).
By Christmas, it’s “absolutely feasible” the average gallon will cost less than $3 in more than a dozen states, says Patrick De Haan, GasBuddy's head of petroleum analysis.
